Nice to meet you!

I'm Fynn.

I'm a collector of experiences (like a hoarder, but for memories). Imaginative, inquisitive, and free-thinking; I've never been one to adhere to conventions without investigating why they exist and whether they're right for me.

Why user experience?

The one constant in my career path has been a desire to help people. But none of my jobs ever felt quite right.

UX allows me to exercise my loves of design, problem-solving, pattern-spotting, psychology, and sharing what I've learned.

Curiosity + connection

Whether I'm cycling through new landscapes, dabbling in a new language (currently fluent in Emoji and GIF), or playing board games, I’m constantly seeking out new ways to connect with the world.

Cycling

On a fundraising bike tour with friends (I'm in the…unique outfit.)

Travel

On a safari in Burkina Faso with other Peace Corps Volunteers (I'm wearing the cape.)

On a trip to Japan with my partner (at a Spring festival near Mt. Fuji)

Games

I enjoy all types of board games, but word games tend to be my favorite.

My favorite type of video games are role-playing games (RPGs), as a form of interactive storytelling.

Linguistics

I enjoy partially learning languages, seeing how they're similar or connected, and how they change over time.

Creativity + altruism

It's important to me to leave places better than I found them. I think often on how to use my skills and abilities to the enhance the world—whether that's through volunteering, upcycling, art-making, or sharing a new way of looking at things.

Crafting + upcycling

A plant cozy I wove from used plastic bags, using a coil technique I originally learned using palm fronds

On a bike tour with friends (I'm the one making a questionable fashion statement.)

Jewelry I made from old bike tire innertubes and plastic bags (as a potential product I could teach locals to make while I was in the Peace Corps)

On a safari in Burkina Faso with other Peace Corps Volunteers (I'm on the right…with a cape)

An original origami orchid design I folded from magazine paper (photo from an exhibit of my work)

Art

An ink rendering of an octopus, using pen and ink washes

On a bike tour with friends (I'm the one making a questionable fashion statement.)

One of my illustrations from "The Hunter and the Crocodile" (a book published by the Friends of African Village Libraries)

On a safari in Burkina Faso with other Peace Corps Volunteers (I'm on the right…with a cape)

A cast aluminum piece I made merging the forms and textures of flowers, coral, and flesh
