Nice to meet you! I'm Fynn.

I'm a collector of experiences–like a hoarder, but for memories. Imagination is my compass, which usually points toward the nearest art supply store or mysterious hiking trail.

Whether I'm cycling through new landscapes, dabbling in a new language (currently fluent in Emoji and GIF), or playing board games, I’m constantly seeking out new ways to connect with the world.

I believe in leaving places better than I found them. I’m thoughtful and intuitive, with a quiet curiosity that compels me to learn. And I’m a creative thinker, whether it be crafting and art (I have a gift for making treasure from trash) or just finding a new way of looking at things.

Why user experience?

Whether it was youth development, customer service, international development, or edcation; the one constant in my career path has been a desire to help people. But none of those jobs ever felt quite right.

It wasn't until I discovered experience design that I decided to be selfish and embark on a career where I could feel fulfilled by helping others. It allows me to exercise my loves of design, problem-solving, pattern-spotting, psychology, and sharing things I've learned.

(Main) Interests

I have tons of hobbies, but these are the ones I enjoy most

Cycling

On a bike tour with friends (I'm the one wearing an outfit of questionable taste.)

Travel

On a safari in Burkina Faso with other Peace Corps Volunteers (I'm on the right…with the cape.)

On a trip to Japan with my partner (at a Spring festival near Mt. Fuji)

Linguistics

I like partially learning languages, seeing how they're similar or connected, and understanding how languages develop and change over time.

Games

I enjoy all types of board games, but word games tend to be my favorite.

My favorite type of video games are role-playing games (RPGs), because they're a form of interactive storytelling.

Crafting and upcycling

A plant cozy I wove from used plastic bags, using a coil technique I originally learned using palm fronds

Jewelry I made from old bike tire innertubes and plastic bags (as a potential product I could teach locals to make while I was in the Peace Corps)

An original origami design of a lotus I folded from a Tyvek mailing envelope (photo taken at an exhibit of my work)

Art

One of my illustrations from "The Hunter and the Crocodile" (a book published by the Friends of African Village Libraries)

An ink rendering of an octopus, using pen and ink washes

A cast aluminum piece I made merging the forms and textures of flowers, coral, and flesh
